AB rested for ODI series against Bangladesh | News Article

Proteas One-Day International captain, AB de Villiers will be rested for the three-match ODI series against Bangladesh.

The player was set to miss part of the tour due to his wife on the brink of giving birth to their first born.

Yesterday however, we were reminded that De Villiers would miss the first ODI, due to a one-match ban he incurred during the World Cup semi-final against New Zealand for a slow overrate, his second offence of the nature within a 12 month window.

Proteas coach, Russell Domingo feels with a big series lined-up, it’s a good time to rest De Villiers.

"AB’s presence and contributions will be missed but we have a hectic playing schedule this season and we felt this would be a great opportunity to develop the next tier of batters during this series, like we are doing with our bowlers.

"We would also like to give him the peace of mind of being close to his wife with the imminent birth of his first born child."

The coach further added with De Villiers being managed it’s a great opportunity for a player like Rilee Rossouw of the Knights.

The first One Day International between South Africa and Bangladesh in Mirpur will be played on Friday.
