Asuf submits consensus document | News Article

Bloemfontein - Successful land reform is in the interests of all South African’s, both present and future generations.

This is according to the Agriculture Sector Unity Forum, Asuf, which comprises the African Farmers Association of South Africa (AFASA), TAU SA, Agri SA and the National African Farmers Union of South Africa (NAFU SA).

Chairperson Japie Grobler said in a statement he is amazed at how members with clearly different views could, with the exception of a few pertinent issues, could come to an agreement, compile a consensus document and timeously submit it to the minister of Rural Development and Land Reform.

Grobler says the submission deals with matters like the need for a proper land audit, a dedicated financial institution to provide the required financing, land reform beneficiaries to eventually become fully fledged land owners and the composition and brief of District Land Committees, among other issues.

Grobler admits general consensus could not be reached on the issue of land ceilings, but says certain proposals were made nevertheless. He says Asuf has now requested an engagement meeting with the Minister.
