Bloemfontein - The largest open-air saddle horse show in the world is underway in Bloemfontein with more than 900 horses expected to strut their stuff over the next week.
SA Saddle Horse Breeders Society President George Aldrich says the cream of the crop of South Africa’s Saddle Horse stock will be competing in the annual National Saddle horse Championships:

He says two US judges will also be sizing up the horses in various classes, ranging from 3-gaited and 5-gaited ridden classes to in-hand show classes to the exhilarating harness classes. Aldrich says conformation and movement are two of the most important criteria in judging a top-class Saddle Horse.
The National Saddle Horse Championship is one of five national agricultural championship events at this year’s Bloem Show from April 23 to May 2.
Other highlights include the World Kalahari Red Show, the National Sheep Shearing Championships, several other nationals, as well as at least 12 other regional and provincial championships.
