Restitution should not inhibit rural growth, says Agri SA─── SABRINA DEAN 15:41 Thu, 03 Sep 2015
Bloemfontein - Agri SA is calling on Government to ensure that the restitution of land rights is done in such a way that it does not inhibit rural growth and investment.
The organisation’s President Johannes Möller said in a statement Agri SA would like to work more closely with the Restitution Commission on finding innovative solutions to tough challenges.
He highlights models that are being piloted in the sugar industry, saying models should address legitimate aspirations of claimants, as well as concerns of potential investors. He says restitution imperatives must also be balanced against the need to ensure food security.
Möller says restitution is one of the themes that will be debated at Agri SA’s Congress on 15 and 16 October.
