Bloemfontein - Free State are the first team to book a spot in the semi-finals of the SAB U21 National Championships after beating University Sport South Africa (USSA) 3-1 on penalties in the quarter-final match played on Thursday morning at the Montshiwa Stadium in Mahikeng, North West.
The game had to be decided on penalties after it was deadlocked 2-2 after regulation time.
In other quarter-final matches on Thursday, Northern Cape will face KwaZulu-Natal at 13:00 while North West and Gauteng will battle it out at 15:00.
The team from Free State qualified for the quarter-finals after finishing second in Group A with four points.
In their group stages, Free State lost 2-1 to KwaZulu-Natal, shared the points with Limpopo after playing to a 1-1 draw before beating North West 2-1 in the last match.
The semi-finals as well as the 3th/4th spot play-off will be played on Friday, with the final to be played on Sunday at the North West University.
