Bafana finish 2014 on a high note | News Article

Bafana Bafana has ended their 2014 season a high after beating the Ivory Coast by 2-0 at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.

South Africa started the match like a house on fire, with Vuyisile Wana finding the back of the net in just the second minute of the Mandela Challenge match, however the linesman ruled the Moroka Swallows striker offside.

TV replays suggest the called was tight and should have stood in the home side’s favour.

It wasn’t until the 31st minute of the match that Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Bongani Zungu could break the deadlock to give Shakes Mashaba’s side the lead.

David Zulu of Kaizer Chiefs doubled the lead with a 53rd strike to secure their win over their much more fancied opponents.

Mashaba finishes his first few months in charge of the national team unbeaten with four wins and three draws.

Bafana’s next assignment will be the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in January and February.
