Escaped suspects re-arrested in North West─── LUCKY NKUYANE 14:44 Wed, 17 Aug 2022
The last group of the trial-awaiting suspects who escaped from lawful custody in the North West this past weekend have been re-arrested. Eight suspects escaped after overpowering a police officer on Saturday in Wolmaransstad.
According to the police spokesperson, Adéle Myburgh, the first group of six suspects were re-arrested between Saturday and Sunday respectively. She says the last group of two suspects who were identified as Gomolemo Chacha and Ditshebi Eric Molaetsi, were re-arrested last night, 16 August, in Wolmaranstad.
The suspects, at the time of their daring escape, were facing charges ranging from armed robbery, murder, burglary, and domestic violence, amongst others.
Police in Wolmaransstad launched a manhunt for two awaiting trial detainees, the 24-year-old Chacha and the 28-year-old Molaetsi, who escaped from lawful custody. The escapees were presumed to be dangerous. The suspects, after escaping, took the cell key from the member and ultimately escaped.
