Mangaung Metro Council sitting following drama─── LUCKY NKUYANE 11:06 Fri, 19 Aug 2022
The troubled Bloemfontein-based Mangaung Metro Municipality in the Free State is on Friday set to hold a special council sitting following the drama involving the chief whip of the majority party.
Council is set to adopt and approve various items which are on the agenda for today’s meeting. The items include the approval of indigent accounts for inclusion in the 2022/23 indigent register. These are for the provision of free basic services to households who cannot afford to pay for municipal services.

Previously OFM News reported that the ANC chief whip, Vumile Nikelo, had written to speaker Stefanie Lockman-Naidoo, informing her that no council sitting should be convened following a certain ANC meeting.

Nikelo’s letter to Lockman-Naidoo follows after the Disciplinary Committee of the ANC’s Interim Regional Committee (IRC) in the Mangaung region allegedly issued letters with the intention to expel Lockman-Naidoo and Patrick Monyakoane, among others.
However, the speaker later responded to Nikelo’s letter and stated that she as the speaker of the Mangaung Metro Council bears the statutory responsibility on matters related to the council.
