Premier of the North West, Bushy Maape, has congratulated Tete Dijana for winning the Comrades Marathon after he took a few months' leave to intensely prepare for the marathon.

According to the spokesperson for the Premier, Sello Tatai, Dijana hails from the Lonely Park Village in the North West and has been running since an early age, whilst a learner Lapologang Secondary School.

The Premier says that the people of the province personifies what he said in his maiden State of the Province Address (Sopa) when he quoted Nigerian Author and Poet, Ben Okri, who said, “we are the people who have the capacity to turn our lives around no matter the challenges confronting us”, said Maape.

In a statement by the Premier, it added that the person who was hot on Dijana’s heels was Edward Mothibi, who also hails from Mahikeng. Mothibi was the men’s defending champion of the Comrades Marathon.

Furthermore, the Premier also congratulates Adele Broodryk, a lecturer at the North West University from Potchefstroom, who obtained the third position in the Women’s Marathon.

According to Tatai, there are already plans under way to give the two champions and all who participated in the marathon a warm welcome.
