#GBV: Female body found on Free State farm─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 11:20 Thu, 01 Sep 2022
Growing cases of gender-based violence (GBV) in the Free State province are increasingly a cause of major concern.
A lifeless body of a woman was discovered on a farm next to the K10 SECTION in Odendaalsrus. The murder of this woman, believed to have been in her late twenties, comes days after the provincial government launched another shelter for victims of GBV and femicide (GBVF) in Sasolburg.

Free State police spokesperson, Stephen Thakeng, says on 30 August 2022 at about 14:00, Odendaalsrus police were called to a scene where a resident of Kutloanong, who was busy cutting wood, allegedly found the body of a murdered woman. Thakeng says on arrival police were directed to a spot where the body of an unknown female was found. He says the deceased had a wedding ring on her finger, and her clothes were scattered on the scene, with police suspecting that she was raped too.
He adds that a case of murder was registered for further investigations. Thakeng has appealed to members of the community, or anyone missing a relative, to visit the Odendaalsrus Police Station, as no one has been reported missing in the area. He further called on residents who might have the information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact Detective Keke Moeketsi on 082-301-2797 or visit the nearest police station.
Premier Sisi Ntombela earlier pleaded with the community members to assist the government to deal with ongoing violent crimes against women and children. She also stated that the province will continue to increase its resources and efforts against GBV, and this includes the implementation of the National Strategic plan on GBV and femicide.
