The Proteas Women’s allrounder, Suné Luus, is set for a special milestone when they face Sri Lanka on Wednesday in the first T20 International in Benoni.

Luus, who captained the Protreas during the 2023 ICC Women's T20 World Cup in South Africa, is set to become the most experienced South African player in women’s T20 cricket.

Luus is currently level with the Free State cricketer and former Proteas captain, Mignon van der Merwe (née Du Preez), on 114 caps in T20 International cricket and she is set to break the record.

Luus said it’s always special representing her country at the highest level and it’s going to be a special day with her family in attendance.

“I didn't even know that was a thing,” said Luus.

“It's scary to think that I'm only 28-years-old and I'm going to be the most capped player, but it's a huge honour to be playing so many games for South Africa, to wear the green and gold, and to do it alongside people I've grown up with.

“My family is going to be there as well, so it's going to be an amazing day and it's a very good day in my career.”

Luus made her T20I debut at the age of 16 against Bangladesh in Mirpur. Since then, she has scored 1231-runs with a highest score of 71. In addition, she has taken 49 wickets and 39 catches. On top of playing in well over 100 T20I's, she has also represented South Africa in 118 ODI's and two Tests.

Wednesday’s first T20 International at Willowmoore Park gets underway at 18:00.
