Agri sector emphasises importance of Sona─── SABRINA DEAN 11:52 Thu, 11 Feb 2016
Bloemfontein - Organised agriculture is of the opinion that this week’s State of the Nation Address (Sona) will be the most important one ever.
Agri SA says the severe drought conditions have devastated agricultural production, which is, in turn, threatening livelihoods.
The organisation’s President Johannes Möller says it is critical to ensure the survival of the sector so as to maintain a food production base for the country.
He says they need to hear from President Jacob Zuma how Government intends doing this.
“There is a chance of farmers laying off labourers. We need to change that around, we need to get the support and we need to get more assurances on land reform so that investor confidence and economic growth are promoted in this State of the Nation Address.”
Zuma is scheduled to deliver his address on Thursday night.
