Bloemfontein - A ten-year-old Limousin cow from the Devlan Limousin stud in North West took top honours at Bloem Show as she was crowned the Supreme Champion in the Absa Beef Cattle Interbreed Class.

Owner John Devlan says it is a wonderful achievement for a cow of this age, saying she still has that show ring presence necessary to wow the judges and stay above the rest of the strong competition.

The Dorper Breed Society was also finalising its National and World Championships at Bloem Show on Friday. Breed President Dreis Wiesse says the quality of animals on show has been phenomenal.

“It has been an unbelievable Championship. It is definitely the biggest the Dorper Breed Society has ever had. In the past we had 1201 animals, this time there are way more than that. There are 46 exhibitors competing and I can tell you, each of them have potential champions among their animals.

“The spirit at this show has been amazing. Two things that make me very proud are the spirit (of competitors) and the quality (of the animals).”

Other agriculture highlights for this week included the Friesian horse national championships, the miniature horse national championships, as well as the Limousin national championships and various other regional livestock events.
