Musa Nyatama - Kickoff

Bloemfontein Celtic has broken their nine-match winless streak by beating the title contenders, Wits 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.

A stoppage time penalty secured the win for Serame Letsoaka’s men with the game heading into a 1-1 draw.

Wits midfielder, Elias Pelembe, opened the scoring for the Students in the 34th minute, however, four minutes later, Thapelo Morena equalised for Phunya Sele Sele.

The goal by Morena marked a unique milestone for the club, with it being the first ever goal scored for Celtic at the newly rebuilt Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium.

There was to be late drama as Wits goalkeeper, Moeneeb Josephs, brought down Lerato Lamola in the penalty area in stoppage time.

Musa Nyatama took the responsibility and converted from the spot for the win.

Letsoaka says there is a lot of relief in the Celtic camp.

"We played very well. But after 20 minutes, Wits took over the game and they were able to get the goal in that period.

"I think in the second half as well there were periods where we looked better than Wits.

"They were defending a lot, especially after we got our goal.

"They were very cautious to attack in the way they had been attacking in the first half. But what can I say, after nine games we have three points. Wonderful.”

Celtic next face SuperSport United in Bloemfontein on Wednesday evening with kick-off at 19:00.
