Wits are now the joint leaders in the Premier Soccer League alongside the Soweto giants, Orlando Pirates.

Last night Wits beat the newly promoted Baroka FC 2-0 at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

This thanks to an 8th minute goal by Thabang Monare and a 90th-minute effort by Cuthbert Malajila.

The Clever Boys have moved up to 7 points, equal to Pirates and both teams have a goal difference of three.

The Buccaneers in their turn earn a single point last night after playing to a goalless draw against Cape Town City F.C.

The Pirates coach, Muhsin Ertugral, issued an apology to their fans after the match.

“I think the fans that came in their numbers here need an apology,” said the Turkish coach.

“I think in the second half, City had 70 percent of ball possession if I'm not mistaken.

“The entries in the last third, the last decision, and the last pass, last cross, the right movement when to move, when to stay... we are working every day on it.

“It is a long, long way to go.

“Some of the players need to understand how to play to instructions.

“So obviously I am sorry that we could not fulfil the expectations of the fans tonight.”

In the Mother City Ajax Cape Town and Polokwane played to a one-all draw.

Tonight Free State Stars host Golden Arrows in Bethlehem, Maritzburg United face SuperSport United, and the new boys, Highlands Park, will be put to the test by Kaizer Chiefs.

All these fixtures kick off at 19:30.
