The Premier Soccer League has confirmed that the January transfer window opened today, which will also give all 16 PSL teams the opportunity to bolster their squads for the second half of the season.

The title contenders, Cape Town City FC, will look to make the most of the transfer period to find suitable replacements for the Australian striker, Matt Sim, and the Latvian defender, Renars Rode.

Both players opted to return to their native countries during the Christmas break.

The defending champions, Mamelodi Sundowns, in their turn will be hoping to retain the services of their star midfielder, Keegan Dolly, who has been offered a lucrative deal at the French 1st League club, Montpellier.

Bloemfontein Celtic have their sights set on a new striker to help change their goal-scoring fortunes and earlier the team's interim coach, Lehlohonolo Seema, told Kickoff  that a marksman is high on their shopping list.

"Upfront we are toothless,” said the legendary former Celtic captain.

“But not in a bad way because we haven’t created chances. We have strikers that can score but we need somebody, we have more of the 10's, the false 9's or whatever term you want to use.

"We need more of a box player, the ones that my ex-coach (Paul) Dolezar used to call the big animals.

"I am happy with what I have got and I have worked through with what I have until the break. We got points here and there and we got disappointed here and there but I will hear from the management."

The January transfer window closes at midnight on 31 January.
