“The suspects’ vehicle was spotted and stopped.”

Two suspects will appear in the Schweizer-Reneke Magistrates’ Court on Monday (19/2) on charges of possession of dagga after they were found in possession of a total of 25kg compressed dagga with an estimated street value of R100 000.

Thabang Molefe (24) and Thandazile Ndlovu (24) appeared before the court on Friday (16/2) Molefe was granted bail of R1000 and Ndlovu was remanded in custody.

“The duo was arrested on Thursday (15/2) after police received information that a Nissan vehicle was transporting drugs on the N12 road between Klerksdorp and Schweizer-Reneke,” said North West police spokesperson Adéle Myburgh.

“The car was spotted and stopped. It was searched, and upon searching a total of 25kg of compressed dagga with an estimated street value of R100 000 was found inside the vehicle, and that led to the arrest of the duo.”

Meanwhile, two suspects will appear in the Potchefstroom Magistrates’ Court on Monday (19/2) for theft and possession of suspected stolen goods.

Thapelo Montwedi (27) and Johannes Toboko (36) made their first appearances in court on Monday (12/2) after they were arrested on Saturday (10/2). The duo was arrested at Haaskraal Farm outside of Potchefstroom.

Police were patrolling along the Potchefstroom and Viljoenskroon road when they noticed three males carrying backpacks at approximately 05:00, when the police stopped the car to speak to them, one of them ran away.

“The police searched the duo and found them in possession of copper cables. They also took the police to the farm where they stole the cables, the farm owner was called and confirmed that the cables were stolen from the farm,” said North West police spokesperson Adéle Myburgh.
