Free State police have arrested a suspect who allegedly shot and injured eight people at a tavern in Ladybrand on Friday evening (29/3).

This after police received a call about a shooting incident in one of the taverns in Manyatseng. According to police reports, the 36-year-old male suspect allegedly argued with one of the patrons inside the tavern and subsequently went to his place of residence in Manyatseng, where he fetched his 9mm pistol and returned to the tavern.

It is understood that when he got back to the tavern, the suspect started shooting randomly, injuring eight people. Free State police spokesperson Mahlomola Kareli said the victims are aged between 26 and 45 and sustained serious injuries, with two in critical condition. He added that the suspect was traced and arrested while at his parents’ house in Manyatseng.

The suspect has been charged with eight counts, including attempted murder. His firearm has also been seized. The suspect will appear in court soon while the investigation continues.
