The department’s Head of Communication, Elijah Mhlanga, says the departments of Basic Education, Social Development, Communication, Digital Technologies, Home Affairs, and Constitutional Development, as well as SAPS, will host the fourth instalment of the Anti-Bullying Roadshow at the Vaal Reefs Technical High School in Orkney in North West. He says the campaign aims to raise awareness of the continued and distressing bullying and violence that continue to plague different communities. Mhlanga adds that the department has been doing a variety of events this month to address violence issues, and this includes online safety training offered by the film and publication board, learner pregnancy dialogue as well as a workshop with parents on social ills affecting the schooling community.

OFM News previously reported on violent debacles that took place in various North West schools. A video showed the principal pinning down a school pupil and a teacher who was shot just outside the school premises.

Mhlanga adds the department is trying to ensure that not only schools but communities around them take up challenges to rid schools of inappropriate, violent, and harmful behaviour.

"This continues to showcase the appreciation that indeed ‘Education is a societal issue; and that government, together with partners, will continue their collective efforts to ensure that bullying and violence have no place in our schools,’’ Mhlanga concludes.
