The former Toyota Free State Cheetahs flanker and renowned rugby commentator, Kaunda Ntunja, has died at the age of 38.


The news was confirmed on Monday by the Ntunja family.

As a commentator, Ntunja, was very popular among journalists and viewers and was held in high regard for his work in Xhosa commentary.

As a player, he captained the South African Schools team in 2000, and he was also a part of the Free State team which won the Currie Cup in 2005.

His sister, Tando, confirmed the sad news on Monday morning.

"It is with deep sadness I confirm the passing of our beloved brother Kaunda Ntunja, earlier today in East London, Eastern Cape," Tando Ntunja wrote.

"As you can imagine, we still trying to make sense of this tragic news and we ask for your love, care and discretion as we prepare to lay my big brother to rest."

The causes of his untimely passing is unknown.
