Gumtree 'baby seller' abandons bail─── 16:08 Mon, 26 Oct 2015
Pietermaritzburg - The 20-year-old mother who was arrested over a week ago after trying to sell her baby on Gumtree has abandoned her bail application in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate's Court.
The woman has been charged with human trafficking and made her second appearance before the court today.
She was arrested when an undercover policeman pretended to want to buy her 19-month-old son - for whom she asked R5 000. Police say the young mother claims she could not look after the child alone as the boy's father was not paying maintenance.
The matter will go ahead on November 5, for the accused to meanwhile obtain legal aid.
