‘Leo got off extremely lightly’ says bear attack survivor who found The Revenant hilarious. | News Article
Leonardo DiCaprio’s portrayal of a bear attack survivor in The Revenant was enough to earn him an Oscar.

But if there is there is one person that knows what it’s really like to be attacked by a bear it’s Allena Hansen and she found the whole thing hysterically funny.

This is how they created Leonardo DiCaprio’s bear wounds on The Revenant – and it took 5 hours a day!

The now 64-year-old was mauled by a bear on her ranch in California in 2008, losing her nose, ears and 14 teeth.

She managed to fight it off with the help of her two large dogs and by sticking her thumbnail in its eye.

As for Leo’s scene, she said it all struck her as ‘risibly faked’.

‘As you can see from the pictures of me when I was taken to ER, Leo got off extremely lightly indeed,’ giggled the rancher.

‘And while we’re at it, bears that big don’t drop dead from three stab wounds to the shoulder with a Bowie knife.’

Allena, now 64, has since endured dozens of surgeries and years of rehabilitation but still lives on a remote California ranch with her four horses and two dogs.

She was equally amused by the scene where Leo’s character gallops off a cliff edge -which kills the horse but not him

‘Having gone off a cliff or two on horseback, I can assure you that: 1. Leo can’t ride for s*** and 2. Appaloosas [the breed of horse he rode] are a lot smarter than that.
