NW investigates racism in schools following another case | News Article

The North West Department of Education is investigating allegations of racism in all its schools.

This, after another school has been rocked by allegations of racism. Learning and teaching at Hoërskool Stilfontein outside Klerksdorp have been disrupted for two days over allegations of racism. Exact details surrounding what might have transpired at this second school are still sketchy and the provincial MEC for Education, Sello Lehare, is expected to visit the school later today.

The province has since last week made national headlines over racism allegations after a picture of a grade R class at the Schweizer Reneke Primary School went viral on social media and sparked outrage. The Department’s spokesperson, Freddy Sepeng, says cases of racism in schools are receiving their attention and expects their investigations to be completed soon.

The department continues to investigate the teacher whose grade R white learners were separated from their black classmates.

The suspended Laerskool Schweizer Reneke teacher wants her suspension lifted. Trade union Solidarity and the teacher will hold a joint press briefing later today where they are expected to announce steps they will be taken against the department.

Meanwhile, the South African Human Rights Commission has also launched an investigation into these cases, stating that there will be serious repercussions if children have indeed been discriminated against.
