Sasol man dies during police drug raid | News Article

A 30-year-old man died during a drug raid at a house in Sasolburg, believed to have been a drug den.

This is according to police spokesperson in the province, Sam Makhele, who explained that the man was, in fact, a suspect as he was found in a house where police found more than R15 000 worth of illegal drugs. As police searched the premises, the man fled but was quickly caught following a foot pursuit by police. OFM News' Pulane Choane reports that the man was brought back into the house, he fell ill and died thereafter.

Makhele said that the police noticed, after apprehending the man, that he had a white residue on his lips and as police continued to search the house, the man complained that he felt ill. Police then called paramedics to the scene and the suspect's condition deteriorated rapidly. He died as emergency medicals were still attending to him. An inquest has been opened to determine the cause of his death. Meanwhile, a 20-year-old female as well as a 26-year-old male, who were also said to have been in the house and are believed to be a couple, have been arrested. The two face charges of dealing in drugs.

Makhele recovered 65 small packets of crystal meth as well as a black plastic bag containing heroin, cat, mandrax, and dagga, as well as an undisclosed amount of cash at the said house. The duo will be appearing at the Sasolburg Magistrate's Court soon.
