Churches 'should be regulated'─── CATHY DLODLO 16:55 Thu, 17 Jan 2019
Churches should be regulated to make sure they adhere to health and safety regulations.
This is according to Reverend Renaldo Louis Meyer from the Centre of Faith in Universitas, Bloemfontein. He was responding to a media enquiry about recent events that have put churches in the centre of controversy. Three woman died and several congregates were injured in a stampede at the Enlightened Christian Gathering church at the Tshwane showgrounds last month.
This follows months of media headlines about the trial of Nigerian Pastor Timothy Omotoso who are in the dock for 63 charges, including racketeering, rape and human trafficking.
Meyer says churches should be accountable.
Meyer says churches have been arguing against regulation, sighting religious freedom, but when one’s right infringes on other’s rights, it becomes a problem.
