#PrellerSquareShooting: Disbarred advocate, IT technician appear in court | News Article

The two men indirectly linked to the murder of Bloemfontein businessman, Louis Siemens, are re-appearing in the Local Magistrate’s Court in the Free State on Tuesday.

The 41-year-old disbarred legal practitioner, Karabo Tau, and 36-year-old Information Technology technician, Sizwe Mpati, are alleged to have used the same gun that was used to murder Siemens in May 2018 in a separate crime later that year in August. Investigating officer, Karin Jacobs, previously mentioned Tau in her testimony, as one of a handful of people Stanley Bakili contacted numerous times via cellular phone on the day of the murder. Bakili is accused number 1 and the mastermind behind the CityMed Managing Director’s murder.

Proceedings into the matter regarding the disbarred legal practitioner and the IT technician are yet to get underway in courtroom 20 of the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court. It is unknown at this stage if the prosecution will reveal any additional information that implicates the accused in the Siemens murder further. In their previous appearance on January 10, Tau became aggressive towards a photojournalist from a local media house who was attempting to take pictures of the suspects within the rules of the courts. Tau threatened to break the camera if a picture was taken of him, to which the photojournalist replied that she was merely doing her job. The former advocate proceeded to turn his back to the journalists and began talking to friends and family who were seated in the gallery before proceedings on that day got underway. The IT technician, on the other hand, remained quiet.

The two men join a list of five people implicated directly or indirectly to the murder. Free State police are said to be on the lookout for the other people contacted by Bakili that day.
