The state of healthcare services in the Free State will once again come in the spotlight when the DA conducts an oversight inspection at some of the biggest hospitals in the province on Wednesday. The party says the state of health in the province is still appalling as they continue receiving reports about the shortage of resources and personnel at many public facilities around the province. The party’s provincial leader, Patricia Kopane, will tomorrow visit the controversial Albert Nzula District Hospital in Trompsburg and the National Hospital in Bloemfontein. The two hospitals are amongst those that have in the past year made headlines over their alleged lack of services.
The Albert Nzula District Hospital has for many years made news for being a white elephant despite the provincial government having spent more than R380 million on its construction. Now that the hospital is in use, concerns over shortage of staff and resources, however, persists.
The DA alleges that the hospital is without specialists and doctors, and functional machines, amongst others.
Questions regarding aging infrastructure at the National Hospital in Bloemfontein were earlier this year raised by opposition parties following reports of flooded floors at the hospital due to a leakage of a water tank located on the hospital’s roof.
OFM News previously reported that the provincial health spokesperson, Mondli Mvambi, said the leakage at the hospital has been dealt with, and that they will be working on upgrades, and maintenance of the hospital in order to improve the quality of the building.
