FS Education expected to attend to PSC concerns─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 12:00 Wed, 23 Jan 2019
The Public Service Commission in the Free State says they are hopeful the provincial education department will implement its recommendations regarding the state of infrastructure and provision of learning material to schools across the province.
This, after the commission during their last inspection at schools in Bloemfontein, discovered that some schools lacked textbooks, had overcrowded classrooms, had concerns over poor hygiene on school premises and feeding schemes.
The Public Service Commissioner, Henk Boshoff, told OFM News that although they will not be conducting these inspections as they normally do at the beginning of each year, they are hopeful that the department will heed to their call as many of the challenges experienced in schools in the province has been brought before the department’s attention.
One of the key recommendations addresses the general safety at schools and that there are not enough security measures in place at some of the schools.
A few weeks ago, OFM News reported on school burglaries that took place in the areas of Allanridge, where four suspects allegedly overpowered and assaulted a security guard at the Mosala High School to gain entrance at the school where they stole valuable items, which included an undisclosed amount of cash, 30 tablets, four laptops, and three mini laptops.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the department of education, Howard Ndaba, is yet to respond to OFM News’ inquiries on these concerns.
