#Jagersfontein mine, FS municipality square off in High Court | News Article

Diamond recovery mine, Jagersfontein Developments, the Kopanong Local Municipality and a group of leaders from the mining town are expected to square off in the Free State High Court on Thursday.

On December 5, 2018 the municipality, with the assistance of some community leaders in the area, allegedly damaged water infrastructure belonging to the mine. Municipal Spokesperson Solomzi Phama at the time told OFM News’s Olebogeng Motse that they had merely cut off water supply to get mine management to come to the table and address the community on their many concerns.

Municipal Spokesperson Solomzi Phama at the time told OFM News that they had merely cut off water supply to get mine management to come to the table and address the community on their many concerns.

On December 13, 2018 the mine turned to the provincial High Court to help settle its fractured relationship with the community of Jagersfontein. High Court Judge Philip Loubser granted the mine, located roughly 100 km outside Bloemfontein, an interdict on the same day, barring the Kopanong municipality and the Jagersfontein Multi-Stakeholder Mining Forum from attempting to stop repair work that they wanted to have done to the water infrastructure belonging to the company.

Loubser’s order said the respondents could challenge the order on the return date, on January 24, 2019, and argue why the interdict should not be made final. It has been reported that the diamond recovery mine is owned by Johann Rupert, Superkolong Consortium and Sonop Diamond.
