According to police spokesperson in the province, Stephen Thakeng, 23-year-old Pierre Botes and 21-year-old Christiaan Globber were arrested earlier this week after they were found with two half tablets of Mandrax as well as 4 bottles of steroids with a total street value of R3000. The duo appeared in court yesterday and will appear again for trial soon.

"The men were arrested on Tuesday at about 12:30 by members of the Welkom K9 Unit, who, while busy with their routine vehicle patrol, noticed a suspicious yellow Datsun vehicle with two occupants. The members then stopped the vehicle and searched it as well as the occupants and found the said substances in their possession. Following which the drugs were seized,” Thakeng said.

He further said whether or not these drugs were used by the occupants for personal use or meant for distribution will form part of ongoing police investigations.
