DA to inspect dilapidated school in Marquard─── PULANE CHOANE 13:41 Mon, 28 Jan 2019
The Democratic Alliance in the Free State are in Marquard where they will conduct an oversight inspection of Itemoheng Primary School.
This comes after the party revealed that among the more serious issues reported at the school, is the continued use of asbestos, which is a material known to cause cancer and was banned in South Africa over ten years ago.
Last week, SABC News reported that learners at the dilapidating school were subjected to learning at the school which had numerous infrastructure problems, despite the fact that the Free State Department of Education had built another new building at the school.
Meanwhile, the opposition’s party leader in the province, Patricia Kopane, said she and the party’s shadow minister of Basic Education, Nomsa Marchesi, are visiting the school to assess how bad the infrastructure problems at the school are and hold the ruling party to task on these. Kopane said she, as well as members of her team, intends to meet the School Governing Body (SGB) as well as the principal at the school to discuss the matter of the school’s ailing infrastructure.
OFM News tried to contact the provincial department’s spokesperson Howard Ndaba for comment on the matter, with no avail.
