Three Bloemfontein men, two of whom are brothers, who are facing charges of murder, will remain behind bars until next Tuesday, following allegations that they killed a man for refusing to join their gang.

The suspects, Creshion Dreyer, Chermandrie Dreyer and Diketso Mabula, believed to members of the notorious BTK gang, appeared at the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court on Tuesday after they allegedly killed Patrick Kagiso on Sunday.

Police spokesperson in the Free State, Thandi Mbambo said preliminary investigations revealed that the men killed the deceased after a scuffle ensued about him leaving the BTK gang, to join a rival gang known as the Roman gang. The Phase 4 community, where the murder happened, helped police to track and arrest the suspects.

Two of the suspects, Creshion Dreyer (19) and Chermandrie Dreyer (25), who are also brothers, were arrested by police after the community of Phase 4 led the police to where they were hiding. The third suspect, Diketso Mabula (26), was arrested later by Public Order Police members who followed-up on information provided during an intelligence driven operation. Mabula was arrested at his parental home, also in Phase 4. A case of murder has been registered and at their next appearance, the trio will apply for bail.

Mbambo said more arrests are eminent. Meanwhile, The Provincial Police Commissioner, Moeketsi Sempe, appreciated the assistance of the community which led to the suspects being apprehended: “The community taking a stance against gang terrors is much appreciated and it is the only way, we can ultimately protect our children against the influence of these gangs.”
