Mangaung by-election kicks off smoothly─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 14:00 Wed, 30 Jan 2019
The by-elections in Mangaung's ward 47 are in full swing with more than 11 000 registered voters expected to cast their vote.
The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) Free State Manager, Itumeleng Liba, told OFM News all ten voting stations in this ward will be opened until 9pm. The ward was previously ran by the DA and become vacant as a result of the resignation of a councillor, John de Bruin, who won it during the last municipal elections in 2016. The ward, which includes the areas of Heidedal, Estoire, and Raceway park, amongst others, is sought after by several political parties who all claim their candidate will be able to bring about the much-needed change in the ward.
Meanwhile, voters who went to cast their votes at Heide Primary School said they are hoping they will see changes in their lives after the elections. Many cited the lack of job opportunities and poor service delivery as the biggest challenges experience by community members.
