FS Police warn against #MobJustice following fatal stabbing─── 06:22 Thu, 31 Jan 2019
Police have sent a "stern warning" to residents of Phomolong village the Free State, to desist from mob justice following the fatal stabbing of 44-year-old Lucky Alfred Pudumo, who was killed after allegedly assaulting his wife.
Police spokesperson captain Stephen Thakeng said the incident took place on Friday at about 10pm.
"It is alleged that the deceased had assaulted his wife at their residence after they came from a tavern," said Thakeng.
While the wife was walking to her parents' home, a group of about six men "interviewed" her, said Thakeng. The men had allegedly been drinking at the same tavern as the couple.
The group then went to Pudumo's home, knocked at the door repeatedly and tried to unsuccessfully force their way in.
"The corrugated sheets were forced open and the door was broken open as well. Then the group entered and dragged the victim from his house to the street where he was assaulted. He sustained multiple stab wounds to his body. The incident was reported to Welkom police and on arrival [the man] was found lying in a pool of blood," said Thakeng.
He said a case of murder was registered at Welkom Police Station and 37-year-old Bafana Nyamane was arrested. Nyamane appeared in the Welkom Magistrate's Court on Monday. The case was postponed to February 4 for bail application.
