In a statement posted on social media, lobby group Afriforum urges parents to fetch learners at the school but discourages them from using the road between Mediclinic and the school. It has been reported that about four learners have died in the collapse and roughly 20 more have been injured.

ER24 spokesperson, Russell Meiring, tells OFM News all relevant emergency services are already on the accident scene, treating the injured and transporting them to the nearest hospitals. Meiring adds that some of the learners’ injuries range from moderate to critical.

The school is not ready to address the media at present, but it has been confirmed that Gauteng Education MEC, Panyaza Lesufi, is on his way to Vanderbijlpark.

UPDATE: ER24's Russel Meiring says they have confirmed that the death toll stands at three and not four like initially reported.
