Ramaphosa heads to Kimberley─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 11:51 Fri, 01 Feb 2019
President Cyril Ramaphosa will this weekend be in the province of Northern Cape, where he is expected to deliver a keynote address in the province’s capital city, Kimberley.
His visit to the province forms part of the ANC’s people manifesto launch ahead of the much anticipated general elections in May. He is also expected to kick-start the Vodacom MeerKat Run set to take place tomorrow morning (Saturday). Ramaphosa’s visit to Kimberley comes just months after the city made national headlines over the unrest that broke out last year.
This mining town made headlines when residents went on the rampage over service delivery issues, increased electricity tariffs and called for three senior municipal managers to vacate office amidst corruption allegations. The ANC’s spokesperson in the province, Naledi Gaosekwe, says Ramaphosa will engage with community members, hand over title deeds and also address other questions regarding service delivery issues experienced by the residents.
She confirmed gates at the Galeshewe Stadium will open from 8 am, while Ramaphosa will be delivering his speech at 10 am.
Gaosekwe adds that over 35 000 people are expected at the manifesto launch.
Meanwhile, the Vodacom MeerKat Run starts from 05:30 am at the Bishops Old Boys Club, Powell Street, Kimberley.
