The Netcare Union Hospital in Alberton in Gauteng has confirmed to OFM News that Marnus Nagel passed away in the early hours of Sunday morning.

This is the fourth learner that has passed away due to the tragic accident that took place at Hoërskool Driehoek when a walkway collapsed, while learners were making their way back to class after assembly on Friday.

Nagel was admitted to the hospital in Alberton after sustaining critical injuries in the tragic incident in which three other learners lost their lives and multiple were left injured after the walkway which connected two buildings at the school collapsed. Learners who sustained injuries are reported to have been transported to various hospitals in the Johannesburg area. A number of them are reportedly in a critical condition in ICU units.

The 17-year-old Roydon Olcker, 13-year-old Jandré Steyn, and 13-year-old Marli Currie died on the scene after succumbing to their injuries. The Gauteng Department of Education said the school would be closed for safety reasons until further notice.

OFM News previously reported that free trauma counselling is being offered to the Hoërskool Driehoek learners, families and officials who were affected by the incident.

An inquest docket has been opened while the department of labour probes the integrity of the school's structure.

Meanwhile, Chevone Duvenhage, Clarice Peens, and Vanessa Sabbert have been admitted to the Nectare Union Hospital in Alberton.

Hillmar Engelbrecht is in the Milpark, Johannesburg intensive care unit.

Chantelle van den Bergh, Jennifer Bothma, Nicole Nel, Juan Lee Muller, and Chamonei Steinvaardt were transported to Mediclinic Vereeniging.

Monya Pelser, Jennifer Delport, Jacques Fourie, Mellita Weber, Jessica Rabovski, Nico Barnard, Clari Botes, Annastacia Opperman and Angelique Smit are in the intensive care unit at Mediclinic Emfuleni.

OFM News previously reported, the community of Hoërskool Driehoek is still in mourning after the death of pupils in a structural collapse at the school.

Scores of learners and family members of the victims of the tragedy gathered at the school to pay tribute to their fellow learners on Friday evening.

Many brought flowers and embraced one another as they mourned.

MEC for Education in Gauteng, Panyaza Lesufi, visited the school and said that the learners are receiving all the support they need.
