Bloemfonteiners decide to be positive despite petrol increase─── SAZLY HARTZENBERG 13:48 Mon, 04 Feb 2019
In less than three days it will cost most South Africans a few cents more to get from point A to point B, this after it has been confirmed that petrol prices will increase early Wednesday morning.
The Automobile Association has announced that the petrol price will increase by 7 cents while individuals using diesel will only pay 1 or 2 cents more, and paraffin will decrease by a whole 5 cents.
Even though South Africans have this dark cloud looming over their heads at the moment, many of them still manage to keep the faith.
OFM News took to the streets to speak to people to hear what they are most grateful for despite the little increase that is coming their way this week.
A Bloemfontein resident, Candice Byneveldt, told OFM News that the petrol increase, no matter how little, will still affect her business, as she has a mobile beauty business. She says that this will mean that she needs to adjust her price list as well. However, she is happy that the economy still allows for young people to open their own businesses and it gives them the opportunity to grow as entrepreneurs. Byneveldt further said that she is also grateful for the time that has been given for South Africans to breathe and save a little when the prices were decreasing at the end of 2018.
A second resident, Tonia Jacobs, told OFM News that obviously a price increase, no matter how little, is never welcome but why cry over spilt milk. Jacobs decided to be grateful for having a car to drive because she knows that there are others who have to walk in bad weather conditions. Jacobs further explained that regardless of all the negatives, at least nowadays the country allow for women to become leaders and that they are succeeding in the business environment. She further said that she is just grateful for all the opportunities that have presented themselves to women.
OFM News previously reported The Automobile Association (AA) says on current data petrol is expected to increase in February, while diesel and paraffin will be slightly cheaper. The AA was commenting on unaudited month end fuel price data released by the Central Energy Fund. The AA's Layton Beard says petrol is set to increase by eight cents a litre, while diesel drops by three cents and paraffin by nine cents respectively.
