Preparations underway for SOPAs in Central SA

Preparations underway for SOPAs in Central SA | News Article

Preparations for the much-anticipated State of the Province Address (Sopa) in the North West, Free State, and the Northern Cape are underway.

The executive manager in the office of the North West Speaker of the Legislature, Tebogo Chaane, told OFM News preparations are running smoothly and it’s all systems go for the address scheduled to take place next week, on February 15.

Chaane says there has thus far not been any hiccups and Premier Job Mokgoro will deliver his speech at the Mmabatho Stadium in Mahikeng.

The SOPA in this province will be followed by the one in the Free State, set to be delivered by Premier Sisi Ntombela on February 19 in Bloemfontein, then the Northern Cape’s one set to be delivered on the 21st of February by Premier Sylvia Lucas in Kimberley.

Following several violent protests that ensued in all the three provinces in the past year, expectations are high that the premiers, during the delivery of their provincial government policies and outline of the direction to be taken for the year, address questions regarding service delivery issues experienced in their provinces.

Mokgoro is expected to also outline the current situation in his province and how they have been progressing after President Cyril Ramaphosa placed it under administration last year in May.

The province was placed under administration following months of unrest and calls for former Premier Supra Mahumapelo to resign.
