More rain expected for Central SA | News Article

Central South Africa can expect more thundershowers throughout the weekend.

Forecaster at the South Africa Weather Services’ Bloemfontein office, Tonie Rossouw, says the wet conditions are expected to continue into early next week and begin dissipating from Tuesday onward.

Rossouw says this will give some of the drier areas in the region some much needed rainfall.

This as many areas in the Northern Cape have been reported to be facing drought-like conditions due to a lack of rain.

The weather forecaster explains that as a result of the rainfall patterns, temperatures will be cooler than usual, but will continue to be warm and even hot in some parts.

Rossouw attributes this to the high energy air coming in from the tropics.

“At the moment there is quite a band of cloud that stretches from Northern Namibia, over the central and eastern parts of Namibia into the Northern Cape, North West and the Free State,” explains Rossouw.

He says this band also covers the Western and Eastern Cape provinces, resulting in the rain conditions we are currently experiencing.

It is expected that it will start clearing from the west on Tuesday, then over the eastern parts of the interior which includes, Gauteng, eastern North West and the north easterly parts of the Free State, he adds.

Meanwhile, Pofadder in the Northern Cape received the most rainfall yesterday with 47 millimetres measured. Augrabies received 39 and Kimberley 31. In the Free State Bloemfontein received the most - 22 millimetres.
