UFS extends application and registration deadline─── OLEBOGENG MOTSE 12:20 Sat, 09 Feb 2019

The University of the Free State (UFS) is extending the application and registration date for prospective students to Friday, February 15.
This extension, however, will only apply to certain programmes, where space is available.
The Faculty of Health Sciences, for instance, will not be accepting any late applications or registrations, because all the programmes in the faculty are full.
Prospective students who are keen on programmes in the Education, Economic and Management Sciences, Law, Natural and Agricultural Sciences, the Humanities, as well as Theology, have until next week Friday to submit their applications and/or registrations.
This despite classes set to get underway on Monday, February 11.
OFM News’ earlier reports indicate that the institution had expected that roughly 8 000 first-time students were expected to enroll for the 2019 academic year, when registrations initially kicked off in early January.
The registration process was suspended temporarily on January 9, when a group of protesters blocked entrances to the Bloemfontein campus and made numerous threats.
The issues at the heart of the tension were about NSFAS-funded students who were allegedly expected to settle their outstanding fees prior to registration, increased fees, and the cancellation of provisional registrations.
Meanwhile, the institution is hosting its KOVSIE ACT Music Festival today, with gates expected to open at 16:00 this afternoon. Acts to perform at the Festival include Bittereinder, Sho Madjozi and Busiswa, with tickets ranging between R100 and R150 for students and non-students respectively.
