Body found said to be that of UFS student─── SAZLY HARTZENBERG 13:09 Tue, 12 Feb 2019
The body that was discovered by students walking to class this morning in Willows, Bloemfontein, has been confirmed by the police to be that of a 23-year-old male, who is said to be a student from the University of the Free State.
Police spokesperson, Wendy Nkabi, told OFM News that the body did not have any visible injuries and that an investigation will be taking place.
Nkabi further said that the post-mortem will determine the cause of death.
This comes just months after OFM News reported that a 20-year-old law student from the University of the Free State (UFS) was fatally stabbed on his way from a Tavern in Ella Street, which is also in the Willows area.
According to the police spokesperson, Thabo Covane, the victim and his friends were walking home from a tavern when they were confronted by a group of males who demanded their cell phones and money.
Covane told OFM News that the victim then handed his possessions to the robbers and a tussle between the victim and suspects ensued shortly thereafter. The suspects stabbed the victim twice in his chest with a knife and he fell down. No arrests have yet been made. Willows is considered a high crime area in Bloemfontein.
The spokesperson of the University of the Free State, Lacea Loader, says they are aware of the incident and will release a statement later today.
