The police in the Free State remain tight-lipped regarding any developments in the murder case of Mangaung Metro employee, Seipati Lechoano.

Mayor of Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality, Olly Mlamleli, says like the media, her office has sent numerous enquiries requesting the latest on the matter. She says each time they are informed that there have been no new developments, it leaves her and the employees working at the Bram Fischer Building in Bloemfontein not only in the dark but further dismayed.

Lechoano was found dead with her hands and feet tied on Christmas Eve 2018 in the basement parking area of the Bram Fischer Building in Bloemfontein. The mayor is adamant that the municipality has fully cooperated with police on the murder case, adding that they have sent CCTV footage and additional information. Mlamleli says the community and the media need to pressurise the police for a report on the case.

Mlamleli says this week she requested that officials bring her copies of the CCTV footage of the basement parking area.

The Mangaung Metro employee was last seen by her family on Wednesday, December 19, at around 7:30 in the morning, leaving her home in the suburb of Grassland heading to her workplace. On Christmas Eve, authorities made a grisly discovery when they found Lechoano’s decomposing body in the boot of her car which was in the basement parking area of the municipal building. Her hands and feet were tied. The last update from provincial police was on December 27, after the results of the initial autopsy were inconclusive.

Police spokesperson, Thandi Mbambo, tells OFM News that the inconclusive results were due to the state that the body was in. Mbambo said at the time that no visible injuries were picked up on Lechoano’s body. She said certain body parts would be taken for further testing and her body will thereafter be released to her family. “It’s definitely going to take long to get the test results,” Mbambo said at the time.
