ANC tripartite alliances warn ruling party to take note of their concerns─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 13:11 Wed, 13 Feb 2019
Cosatu and its affiliates are warning the ANC to take heed of concerns raised by all its alliances and residents in the country.
This, as they have embarked on a nationwide strike against increasing job losses and retrenchments in both the public and the private sector. Members leading the march taking place in the city of Welkom in the Free State, are adamant they will stand firm against the privatisation of State-owned Enterprises and corruption. The union says they will unite in the fight against President Cyril Ramaphosa's plan to split Eskom into separate entities as this would threaten thousands of jobs. They remain steadfast that they will not back down and keep quiet when workers are being oppressed, or when their members' jobs are being threatened and fired by their employers. Cosatu's Free State Secretary, Manyatso oa Mahlatsi, and SACP's Phillip Kgayago have highlighted that they will not support the ANC if the plight experienced by workers is not addressed whilst officials implicated in corrupt activities are afforded opportunities to occupy positions in local municipalities, and government positions.
Gathered in front of the troubled Matjhabeng Local Municipality, the tripartite alliance leaders in the province have further stated that the mismanagement and closure of mines in the province, outsourcing of government services, and the use of labour brokers are among some of the issues they have raised and called on employers to address them.
They reiterated the fact that unions have advocated for Ramaphosa to become the president does not mean they will always be pleased with every decision he makes and that they continue raising their concerns where they disagree.
