Disciplinary hearing against NW Health HOD continues

Disciplinary hearing against NW Health HOD continues | News Article

The disciplinary hearing against the embattled North West Health boss, Thabo Lekalakala, is continuing.

This is according to the departmental spokesperson, Tebogo Lekgethwane. He tells OFM News that the head of the North West health department appeared before the departmental disciplinary committee on 11 and 12 February 2019.

OFM News previously reported that Lekalakala at the eleventh hour lobbied for the labour court to reinstate him with immediate effect, despite his on-going internal disciplinary hearings.

He adds that the disciplinary proceedings against him have been adjourned by the disciplinary committee following a mutual agreement between him and the department’s legal team and the date for another hearing is yet to be announced. Lakalakala’s move to lobby the labour court to reinstate him with immediate effect angered the office of the premier, Job Mokgoro.

The spokesperson in the office of the premier, Vuyisile Ngesi, previously told OFM News that Lekalakala’s sudden reinstatement by the court was shocking as the government was given a right of reply in the matter.

Lekgethwane says the provincial government has, however, decided against lodging a court bid to have Lekalakala’s reinstatement set aside in order to allow for the smooth running of his disciplinary hearing and to also avoid further unnecessary financial losses through a court battle. Lekgethwane also previously told OFM News that Lekalakala is charged with procurement irregularities involving the payment of R30 million to the Gupta-linked Mediosa company and misrepresentation of facts after he stated he had worked as a chief director of the department.
