Cash-strapped #Celtic reserves are champions, heading to Europe─── 13:00 Mon, 25 Feb 2019
Despite the financial challenges the team is currently facing, there was jubilation all round this past weekend when Bloemfontein Celtic reserves were crowned Multichoice Diski Challenge (MDC) champions on Saturday.
This follows an emphatic 3-1 victory against Kaizer Chiefs in an entertaining game held at Makhulong Stadium in Johannesburg.
Celtic came into the match needing only a point to win the championship but a win was a bonus for the Mangaung-based club.
The Multichoice Diski Challenge is a reserve league for the PSL campaigners. Players who don't feature much in the first team have some game time playing in the competitive MDC games.
The MDC league has also unearthed players that are currently playing in the premier league.
A buzzing crowd of close to 10,000 witnessed the Free State club clinch the league for the first time since inception.
Siwelele have always been challengers of the MDC league and have finally delivered.
Siwelele MDC coach, Abraham Nteo, was full of praise for his team and stated it's been long a journey but credit must go to the boys.
As a result of the historic win, the team will now tour Europe and will spend a significant time in Spain where they will play against formidable Spanish outfits. They will also attend workshops and training sessions conducted by some of the well-known coaches in Europe.
Meanwhile, the senior team went down to Free State Stars in action-packed Free State derby held at Dr Rantlai Molemela stadium yesterday. The final score was 3-2 to Stars.
