CUT SRC remains resolute regarding students' demands─── LUCKY NKUYANE 11:50 Tue, 26 Feb 2019
The Central University of Technology's Students Representative Council says despite the positive response from NSFAS and the institution's management to their demands they remain resolute and determined to achieve them.
The CUT SRC president, Sabelo Ngwenya, tells OFM News that the students appreciate the swift response from the financial aid scheme to come down to address students' demands.
He says they demand that all students who rely on the aid scheme must be paid this week.
He adds the decision by the institution to suspend classes was to allow NSFAS officials, who are currently on campus, to commence with their respective duties of helping students.
Ngwenya adds that despite students receiving different amounts, the SRC cannot really dictate to schemes that students be funded equally because the funding is given after specific evaluation by the Department of Education and other bursary schemes.
This was his comment after students raised concerns about different amounts of allowances given to them with some receiving as much as R5000 and others R10 000.
But Ngwenya says there is nothing inappropriate about these allocations because it depends on the outcome of the needs of students.
