The Workers and Students’ Forum or WFS at the University of the Free State is said to be divided over the offer put on the table by the institution’s management.

A representative of the General Industrial Workers Union of South Africa (GIWUSA), Vuyo Mapompo, tells OFM News that the South African Student Congress, Sasco, is seemingly influencing disgruntled workers to continue protesting despite an offer with an option of making demands on the table, as well as their protest being unprotected.

Mapompo says students and the union leadership had a confrontation this afternoon after the student body labelled him as a sell-out. Mapompo says the union, on the other hand, encouraged disgruntled workers to consider and take the offer since the institution’s management told them that they have an option to make demands.

He says with the opportunity to make demands workers may ask for an increment on pay and also request better benefits.
