Bakkie torched in violent NW protests─── PULANE CHOANE 15:35 Mon, 04 Mar 2019
Violent protest action has been reported on the R378 road in Ganyesa, which is between Vryburg and Tosca in the North West.
According to the police spokesperson in the area, Adele Myburgh, the protest action has been going on since 05:00 this morning. While the situation has since calmed down, residents want answers regarding a project which they were promised would benefit them by creating local jobs.
Myburgh told OFM News that the angry residents are protesting with the hope of getting answers from local leaders on why construction on a tar road that was promised to them by the Department of Public Works, has not started yet. Myburgh said one bakkie and four other vehicles were damaged, however, no arrests have been made.
Meanwhile, police in the area have opened a case of malicious damage to property and continue to monitor the situation.
