#NWbudget: Pilanesberg Airport receives R30m for repairs | News Article

An amount of at least R30 million is earmarked for repairs to the terminal building and the replacement of the fencing around the Pilanesberg Airport in the North West in the coming financial year.

This was revealed by MEC for finance, Maphefo Matsemela, during her 2019/20 financial budget speech in the Provincial Legislature in Mahikeng on Tuesday.

Matsemela says this allocation of the money to the airport is to mitigate its risk exposure and compliance to the Aviation Authority and R15 million is allocated in the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) to address the current infrastructure challenges at Mahikeng Airport. She announced that Provincial Treasury will work with the Finance Department in preparation for a viable business case for alternative funding options.

Matsemela also announced that to ensure there is a smooth movement on the roads in the province an amount of R4,668 billion has been invested in Provincial Roads Infrastructure since 2014/15 with about 124km of roads being upgraded from gravel to paving. “This investment included rehabilitation and maintenance of the provincial road network through the Conditional Grants and the Equitable Share to ensure accessible and drivable roads to our needy rural communities,” she concluded.
